MarĂa Fernanda Plano has graduated with a degree in Chemistry at Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL). She has worked in optimization and determination of surface proteins in soy concentrates by molecular fluorescence spectrometry.

Ma Fernanda then obtained a grant from the National Research Council (Conicet, Argentina) and the UNL for her Ph.D. in Chemistry in the Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR). She made research in synthesis and purification of analogues of polycyclic natural products that showed improved biological activities as antimicrobial and antiparasitic. In addition, she had developed experience in technical analytical and structural elucidation of chemical compounds by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Infrared Spectroscopy, Mass spectrometry, among others.

Following her doctoral thesis, Ma. Fernanda has received a postdoctoral fellowship funded by CONICET where she developed techniques of pegylation of biopharmaceutical molecules. Specifically, she has investigated pegylation of low molecular weight hormones and synthesized multiarmed polyethylene glycols (PEGs), with more than two polymer chains and a single binding site using polyfunctional compounds as binding molecules. Her research activities include organic synthesis, asymmetric synthesis, asymmetric catalysis, activation of polymers and medicinal chemistry.

In Laboratorio Horian I+D, Ma. Fernanda works in Organic Synthesis area designing, optimizing and scaling up of the synthesis of activated PEG molecules for conjugation of biologically active materials.
